Knowing God’s will is not difficult – the
commands are in black & white in the Scriptures. However, finding specific
direction is used by God to build faith. Direction is subjective, and the only
person that can really discover it is the person seeking it. Others may
disagree or think the decision made does not make sense, but if an individual
is in the will of God and has taken the time to seek His direction, the peace
that He provides gives that individual the confidence to make that decision, no
matter what others may say or what the circumstances are. As a missionary I
received a lot of criticism for taking my family to a country others felt was
poor, had less opportunities and was even unsafe.
One key element to discovering His direction is our connection
to His Word. We have seen 3 reasons why this is important.
1. The Word keeps you in His will – remember – Sin takes
us out of His will.
2. The Word focuses your view of Who God is and
what are His priorities
3. The Word makes the soil fertile for God to work in.
Here are 2 more:
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of
witnesses surrounding us…let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us,
Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was
written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement
of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Acts 20:32 “And now I commend you to God and to the word
of His grace, which is able to build you
up and to give you the
inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
When we see how faithful God is to those that desire to follow,
our faith is strengthened. So many have seen God lead in their lives, and He
promises to do the same for anyone that also desires to follow.
The So What: Are you willing to follow the Lord? Do you have “exception
clauses?”
If God designed you, wouldn’t He know what would bring you real joy?
