What is my soul really worth?

The only real way to evaluate what something is worth is to ask yourself what are you willing to sacrifice for it?

Defined: An act of offering something precious; destruction or surrender of something for the sake of                                                          something else.

God’s plan to redeem rebellious human beings was a two-part plan. He began by extending His Mercy and Grace by covering the sins of those that sought His forgiveness. This was to prepare the way for His Ultimate Sacrifice, which would remove all sin, for all; past, present and future! He would pay the complete debt that sin costs and give all that are willing and desire eternal life living with God Himself.

God’s timing is His timing, we do not understand it fully, but what is clear is that the sacrifice under the Old covenant was not the Ultimate Sacrifice offered in the New covenant.

In what way was the Old covenant sacrifice Insufficient?

Because it was a Representive offering, using the Tabernacle, a Priest & a Lamb. There was an offerer & an offeree.

The sacrifice in the New covenant was the Actual offering. The cost of sin is high, only an actual sacrifice could pay the debt. Jesus was the True High Priest, He entered the Throne of Heaven and presented the one and only Lamb of God…Himself.

Hebrews 9:24 For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;

With the Old covenant – The sacrifice was Involuntary…the Priest did not ask for a raise of hands!

In the New covenant Jesus Voluntarily offered Himself…He said this: “No man takes my life, I lay it down”

Hebrews 10:5–7 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, But a body You have prepared for Me; 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure. 7 “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of Me) To do Your will, O God.’ ”

As stated, the Purpose of the Old covenant sacrifice was To cover sin.

Hebrews 10:1–4 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

It was never meant to be a cure, instead it acted as a Thermometer, Exposing the disease of sin. It was used to be a constant reminder for those looking for the Messiah, that they were sinners and needed a Savior.

The New covenant declares sin is paid in Full! Those that had faith and believed that God withheld judgment from them because their sins were covered by the blood of animals now received removal and forgiveness of the debt of sin. For all of us that look back at what Jesus did, if we trust in His sacrifice, we enter into a new life with Him at that moment!

Hebrews 9:26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

Hebrews 10:9–10 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. 10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

All of us need to understand the finality of the Sacrifice that God was willing to pay.

Notice the glaring comparison between the Old covenant sacrifice and the New covenant sacrifice:

Hebrews 10:11–12 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God

The So What: What do you believe your soul is worth? Do you know that there is one individual in this world that hates every human created by God? He will try to convince you that you are not worth that much or that you can take care of things by yourself. Those are both lies! God is perfect and we will never be. Our works will never be enough to pay the full debt of our sin. However, God knew that and was willing to take that debt onto Himself! He was willing to lay down His life to provide all of us the choice to accept His sacrifice and receive complete forgiveness, and become a child of God.
