Yes…No…Maybe? Why can’t I make up my mind?

Growing up in Europe and the DC area I did not experience a lot of ocean life. However, my ministry life took a very clear turn. Decades of living on islands, Hawaii & the Philippines, I learned…sometimes painfully…that the ocean has a mind of its own! Learning to body surf for a novice should be done only on gentle beaches, not Waimea or Sandy Beach! I remember early, I overshot the break and found myself in the middle of the air, water behind me, sand below me! Hitting the bottom hard and then covered and rolled by the wave. Then adding insult to injury, getting up and walking toward my friends with my back to the next wave, I hear them yelling, I turn around just in time to be hit in the forehead by the top of the wave…it bent me like I was Gumby!

James 1:6-8 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Another version states a portion this way: “Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”

When we live believing our life is an accident, we leave ourselves at the mercy of a fallen angel that hates everything God loves!

When we find our doubt is in God Himself, then He has decided to honor that! So, we actually get what we believed in. If we believe God would not or cannot answer our prayer specifically then that’s what we will get!

I know many struggle with this, but that is because we are not asking in a Scriptural way.
There are two ways to make sure God will not answer your desire – Intimidation, (Claiming in Jesus Name) which is always done in a loud voice, like the Holy Spirit is hard of hearing!  The other is doubting God, doubt robs us of rights and confidence, which assures answers of no = doubt. This person is described as “a double-minded man” and “unstable in all his ways”!

Real faith is single minded. Firmly planted on what God states! Not TV preachers, not popular books and not devotion writers like me! Meditation Thoughts: Have you considered what authority you have over your life? Yourself? Goverment? Circumstance? Do you believe this life is it? If so, why? If not, what are your plans for eternity? What if the One that created you has a plan…How important would it be to understand it?
