In
2 Chron 16:1-9 we have a very sad story about King Asa. Asa had been a great
King of Judah and honored the Lord. Then Baasha, King of Israel attacked Judah.
Instead of turning to the Lord, Asa turned to Ben-hadad, king of Aram and came
into an alliance with him. The passage shares the sad reality that Asa had to
face due to this decision: 2 Chron 16:7-9 At that time Hanani the seer came to
Asa king of Judah and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Aram
and have not relied on the Lord
your God, therefore the army of the king of Aram has escaped out of your hand. “Were not the
Ethiopians and the Lubim an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen?
Yet because you relied on the Lord,
He delivered them into your hand...You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed,
from now on you will surely have wars.”
The word “Compromise”
always requires a context! When we compromise non-truth issues to get along, that is good. However, when we compromise our stand on Truth, we make the same
mistake as Asa! Usually what drives us to do that is we are in a hurry to get
what we want, instead of being patient and waiting on the Lord’s way and His
timing.
You Are More Than You Have Become! |
How can we avoid this kind
of Compromise? I will share 3 thoughts in my next Devo.
The So What: Do you know the weak areas of your life? Your enemy does…you need to so you can be proactive in defending yourself. Have you sought from the Lord a conviction for everything in your life? Yes there are major and minor issues, but the more conscious you are of why you do what you do, the easier it is to stand in the Truth.
