The city of Pompeii was destroyed by a volcano. The lava covered the city so fast that history was frozen by it. People found all over, running, some hiding in deep vaults, some in chambers. A Roman guard was found still at his post with a weapon in his hand. He knew his duty. Do we? BeforeI continue in Proverbs and James, I felt led of the Lord to insert some thoughts due to the impact that a forest fire has caused on the East coast of the USA. Many others, like me, had their plans changed due to something totally outside of their control. I am one of those unfortunates that seem to react many things. The air is making my eyes itch, interrupted my sleep – even though I use a C-pap, and giving me breathing issues. Our adversary is always prowling around looking for children of God he can encourage to lose their right attitude and lead them to a wrong and sinful one. I cannot control what my body reacts to…but I have total control how I react to my health issues. For a while I was failing, but after more time in the Word and prayer, listening to the Holy Spirit and encouragement from my wife to remember to keep the main thing what our main thing has been all our lives…glorifying our Lord and being content where He has us in the moment, I am experiencing great fellowship with Him in spite of these health issues. Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.
As children of God, if we slow down and evaluate our present circumstances in light of eternity, we will see that allowing a hiccup to ruin our life is foolish! The inconveniences of “now” pale in comparison to “forever” with God in His home…which is now our home! The So What? Are circumstances controlling you? Are you willing to turn them over to God’s control? You have nothing to lose except your anxiety!
