Running a smart race

Scripture Read: Heb 12:1 NASB  Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance – (impediment, burden) - and the sin which so easily – (without difficulty; won easily) - entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT) — 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Heb 12:1 NET Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us,

Application:  Father is this where we have been for far too long?  This can even make someone question if they are in relationship with You. Many know they love You and want to bask in Your grace but they find themselves struggling with sins they believe should already be conquered. As we consider this verse - we need to get this truth into us – so we can finish well. Two phrases are very powerful in this section – “so easily” – the NET paints a good picture – the sin that clings closely – how true this is! & “entangles us”. Some questions we need to ask ourselves – Do I let sin win easily and that has prevented the action toward progress that I say I want? What does my life look like? What do I think it should look like?  We need to become what we should be – but how? – Only You can guide us there Father. Oh Dad we so love our life with You yet we hate so much when we awake from giving into sin. We want to be so awake that it only wins after a hard fight. Lead us into a consciousness that keeps us from being lazy about sin. Father it will honor You and we know in the end we will have Your joy and the regret that our flesh will experience because it does not get what it wants will fade fast. The regret we sense when we sin lasts all day – empower us to choose to make our flesh regret rather than the inner man. Life can be loved when we are walking with You. We love You Father. Perhaps we should meditate on this verse throughout the day.
