Company to sin with!

Scripture Read: 2 Peter 2:12-16 But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed, [13] suffering wrong as the wages of doing wrong. They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are stains and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, as they carouse with you, [14] having eyes full of adultery and that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, accursed children; [15] forsaking the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, [16] but he received a rebuke for his own transgression; for a dumb donkey, speaking with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.

Application: Trained -  γυμνάζω gumnázō;  To train naked, as the Greek athletes. Generally to exercise, train. Thus gumnásion, gymnasium, is a place of exercising. Metaphorically to train in godliness (1 Tim. 4:7; Heb. 5:14; 12:11); training in covetousness (2 Pet. 2:14).  

The thing that strikes me about this passage is the intent of the sinner here – They are like athletes. This is not sin that someone trips into due to carelessness or lack of discipline. This is conscious sin, worked at and cultivated. This is that line we cross over that is really the beginning of carnal living. All of us sin and will continue to struggle with the flesh – but are times when there really is not a struggle. We have moved into a very dangerous realm of love for that sin and we actually work on ways to practice it. I have tasted this for myself, but did not go to the point of this passage. Not only loving the sin for yourself but desiring others to love it with you! That must be the final line to cross when a person has decided to quit on God and live a life for self – they can’t stand the loneliness so they have to drag others to join them so they can feel better about this choice. Do You look at them differently Father? Please fill me with the hatred of sin that You have while still loving the sinner.
